Six Sigma Champion

The Six Sigma Champions do not have a sound knowledge of Six Sigma methods. The details of the methods are the responsibility of the Six Sigma Green and Black Belts.

The Six Sigma Champion is a link between the Six Sigma structures and the upper management or the Six Sigma Champion is a member of the senior management. The Six Sigma Champions translate the language of the professionals and report on problems and successes from the improvement teams.

Six Sigma Champions are responsible for the introduction of Six Sigma in the company and prepare roll-out plans. They are supposed to remove obstacles and barriers through personal commitment. Six Sigma Champions are often part of the top management and mentors for Green Belts and Black Belts. Six Sigma Champions play a key role in the selection of Six Sigma projects. They manage the training of Green and Black Belt candidates, their restructuring, etc. Six Sigma Champions have an overview of all Six Sigma projects and participate in the gate reviews. They free up the resources they need, remove hurdles, and help the Green Belts and Black Belts implement the improvements.

The Six Sigma Champion learns the structure and philosophy of Six Sigma. He gets an overview of the methods summarized in the Six Sigma Methodology, knows the objectives and their usefulness, without, however, learning a deeper application of the methods himself.

The Six Sigma Champion must be able to identify suitable candidates for Six Sigma projects and define the objectives for such projects.

SIX SIGMA Projects are discussed in consultation with the company management (management, plant manager, department manager, production manager, etc.) with the SIX SIGMA Trainer (in the rule this is an experienced Master Black Belt), fixed in writing and backed up with key figures and measurable targets. Subsequently, for the defined SIX SIGMA Projects are looking for suitable candidates from the company. The specific expertise of the candidates (physicists, chemists, engineers, electrical engineers, logisticians, mechanical engineers, etc.) should be taken into account. Motivation of the Green Belt and Black Belt It may be advantageous for candidates to choose “their” project from the project proposal list. In principle, SIX SIGMA projects are aligned with the company’s strategic objectives.
